The steam controller apparently works great in this game, if you have one and set it up ( i don't ) . Note that both the steam and the GOG version require some messing around with compatibility mode for the game to work at all (which is unsual for GOG), although it works out of the box for some people.

I was able to find a JoyToKey script for mapping the keyboard inputs to an Xbox 360 controller, but the in-game prompts still say to press keyboard buttons, so I keep having to remember "Wait, which button is that again?" And with all the "troubles" going on lately I keep stopping my play-through for a few days here and there and forgetting all.
